Myofascial Release and Cupping
There are many types of body work modalities to help with tightness and pain syndromes in the body. Myofascial Release (MFR) addresses the muscles and fascia throughout the human body. Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, muscle fibers, nerves, nerve cells, and is embedded in the skin. It is referred to as the “endless web” and is often thought of as the “soft skeleton” in the body or the “glue” that keeps us together. You cannot separate muscle from fascia. Myofascial restrictions are common, often painful and can even affect the structure of the body.
Luna Therapy addresses myofascial restrictions through a variety of evidenced-based therapeutic modalities. Clients are instructed on self-MFR techniques to further assist with the healing process and empower people with their own self-care. Listed below are a few of the common techniques that is used:
Manual manipulation- a combination of light stretching and a variety of massage techniques
Trigger points- applied pressure to muscle and knots to reduce pain
Stretching-is a multidirectional sustained stretch
Cupping-uses cups made from glass, plastic, or silicon to create a vacuum or negative pressure
Foam Rollers- this is a self MFR techniques using your own body weight against a foam roller
Skin Rolling- a traditional massage technique that pick-up skin and “rolls” it over a large area
