Shirodhara-An Ancient Ayurvedic Treatment
Shirodhara dates back thousands of years and was initially used for various neurological and psychological disorders. Shirodhara comprises two terms: ‘shiro’ meaning head, and ‘dhara’ meaning pouring in stream or sprinkling. It is a healing treatment for the head and scalp that can promote mental clarity, improve sleep quality, deepen intuition, lower stress, and anxiety, and instill a deep sense of well-being.
Shirodhara is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine- a system of holistic medicine that is at least 5000 years old. It is still widely practiced in India along western allopathic medicine. Shirodhara traditionally uses warmed sesame oil with healing herbs and essential oils to ‘annoint’ the third eye (middle forehead) with a steady stream of oil that saturates the scalp and hair. This treatment generally lasts 20-30 minutes. In addition, the recipient is then treated to a scalp, hand, and foot massage to further assist with relaxation and healing for a total treatment time of 50 minutes. This treatment is luxurious and can be scheduled at Luna Therapy to help you foster a sense of tranquility and inner calm.
