SPA-Sanum Per Aqua
These days, the word Spa is tagged on to just about everything that has to do with the health, beauty and the wellness industry. Spa had its origin in Latin originating from the ancient Roman culture, and morphed into the Romance languages, what we now recognize as Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. SPA is the Latin acronym for Sanum per Aqua, To Heal Through Water (think of the Roman baths). Today, spa can refer to a nail spa, hair salon and spa, medical spa, day spa, or hot tub, to name a few.
Most people would agree that Spa is about self-care, health and relaxation. Spa is no longer thought of as a “pampering” destination, but a place for self-care, health maintenance, relaxation, healing, rejuvenation and recovery. A modern spa experience may or may not include water. Most spas today include a service, such as nails, hair, massage, facials, spa treatments, or a medical procedure. Other destination spas are built around healing waters such as natural hot springs, lakes or the ocean. One thing is for sure, an experience to a health and wellness spa will refresh the spirit, renew the mind and rejuvenate the body.
