Rejuvenation

There is a season and time for everything… a time to build up, a time to break down, from the ancient Hebrew scriptures in Ecclesiastics.  Nature has its wonderful rhythm of day and night, waking and sleeping, planting, and harvesting and rest/stillness.  Humans can learn a lot from nature if we can slow down, open our eyes, hearts and minds and embrace the idea that when we balance our life with healthy rest we restore our body and our souls.

Rejuvenate means to “give new energy or vigor to; or revitalize. It also means “to make young again.”  When we take time off to nourish ourselves whether it be daily movement, spending time in nature, prayer, meditation, dreaming, eating healthy, receiving a massage, or spending quality time in a hobby or with loved ones, we replenish and give new energy and life to our body, mind, and spirit.

Life and its never-ending cycle of “to do” lists can seem overwhelming and often is. There is never quite enough time in the day, week, month, or year to accomplish our lists. Mainstream culture wants you to believe that the next acquisition, movie, book, fashion piece, car, vacation, make up, hair style, product (the list goes on and on and on), will satisfy our hunger and thirst- always for more.

When in our hunger and thirst, what we are really craving is connection to relax-rest- refresh (three R’s), to rejuvenate our lives with new energy and to bring balance to our hectic lives. We are enough, and most of us have enough (material things). What we are lacking is our commitment to the three R’s in our daily lives. We are sold into the notion that a yearly vacation can take place of our daily need for rejuvenation. Science now validates that relaxation and rest are essential to body and brain health, healthy aging, and good quality of life. Our bodies renew and rejuvenate during times of rest, not during times of activity.

Carve some time for yourself… book a massage or spa treamtent, visit a park, soak in some hot springs, go for a bike ride, stop and just breathe. Your body, mind and spirit will smile back at you.
