Inner Rivers - The Lymphatic System
The human body is miraculously designed to build, breakdown and regenerate throughout the life span. Human life starts as a single cell and then multiplies into trillions and trillion of cells during-the-course of a lifetime. Our lymphatic system flushes out cellular waste products from all the cellular metabolites that is a continuous process of growth, decay, and renewal in the body. The lymph system filtrates the blood and flushes out toxins from the body, mainly through the interstitium- a network of fluid-filled spaces supported by connective tissue between the cells. Think of the waters of the earth- creeks and streams to rivers and oceans. Water is constantly circulating and cleansing the environment, along with the rain cycle.
Our lymph system is much the same, starting subdermal (in the skin), with capillaries (streams) and lymphatic channels (rivers) flushing unwanted debris out of the body via the organs and urine. The lymph system is also an important aspect of the immune system as it carries lymphocytes (white blood cells- B cells and T cells) to assist the body to fight cancer and foreign viruses and bacteria (antigens). If there is a blockage any where in the lymph system (think of a damn), fluid will start to back-up creating tissue swelling.
Taking care of the lymph system should be an important aspect of daily self-care and wellbeing. There are many ways to promote a healthy lymphatic system through daily gentle movement, including walking, biking, swimming, and yoga. Drink plenty of water and herbal teas, eat a whole food, plant-based diet, avoid sugar, white flour and processed food and receive regular lymphatic drainage massages. Another highly beneficial way to get the lymph system going is to perform a daily dry brushing on the skin. Purchase natural brushes and gently brush the skin towards the heart. Visit YouTube for ways to incorporate this into your daily routine.
Facial lymphatic drainage encourages circulation in the face by bringing vital nutrition to the skin, reducing eye puffiness, minimizing fine lines, and can help sculpt and define cheekbones, promote radiance, boost collagen production and help decrease/improve acne breakouts.
There are many benefits to a full-body lymphatic drainage massage, AKA manual lymph drainage, when performed regularly including:
· Flush toxins and bacteria from the body
· Promotes a healthy immune system
· Relieve sinus pressure and congestion
· Assist with reduction of wrinkles and puffy eyes
· Clinically proven to reduce swelling and improve healing of injuries
· Increase collagen production
· Can help reduce cellulite
