Manual Therapy-Part II Specialities

The basis to most massage techniques is Swedish, which is a set of strokes that
include long gliding, kneading, vibration and tapping. Specialty massages have a
root in Swedish massage techniques, but are geared toward specific results. Luna
Therapy offers the following special massages that are effective and at the same
time nourishing.
1. Heated Stone Massage- uses basalt river stones heated in warm water usually
in a crockpot. Basic Swedish massage techniques are applied with similar
benefits: relaxation, better sleep, improved immune function, decreased
muscle and pain. However, heated stones add a deeply calming and
grounding effect on the body. If you are feeling a bit stressed and scattered, a
stone massage may be all you need to rebalance and find your center.
2. Reflexology- this ancient massage technique is said to date back
approximately 4,000 years ago and traces its roots to China and Egypt.
Specific points on the feet correlate with specific areas in the body and
organs. Reflexology benefits may include: relaxation, improved blood flow
and immune system, calms the nervous system, and eliminates toxins. This
special foot massage is a win/win. Try out Peppermint Foot Bath and sugar
scrub with paraffin dip for the feet and reflexology for the ultimate sweet
treat.
3. Pregnancy Massage (Prenatal Massage)-Pregnancy and childbirth are very
special times in a woman’s life. Massage can be a very vital and important way
to support a woman in her pregnancy and to help assist her is this very
special journey of life. Prenatal massage can help reduce swelling in ankles
and feet, reduce pain in low back and hips, improve sleep and most
importantly prepare for labor and delivery, studies show that women have
shorter hospital stays, shorter labors and less incidence of post-partum
depression after receiving massage during pregnancy
